Lakers Complete Biggest NBA Comeback of the Season
The Los Angeles Lakers completed the biggest NBA comeback of the season on Sunday, battling the Dallas Mavericks to a thrilling 111-108 win. LeBron James and the Lakers overcame a 27-point third-quarter deficit to take control of the game.
The Mavericks led by as many as 25 points in the first half and were cruising to a comfortable lead early. But the Lakers turned it around, playing their best basketball of the season so far.
They poured it on in the second half, outscoring Portland 61-43 in the final quarter and claiming their fourth win after five straight losses. The Lakers shot a franchise-best 53.2 percent from the floor and were able to keep the Mavericks in check at the free-throw line.
Against the Mavericks, Lakers star Jarred Vanderbilt stepped up big, scoring a team-high 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and adding a career-high 17 rebounds, four steals and two blocks. He also forced a turnover to help the Lakers get back in the game and seal the win.
The Lakers are 3-1 with their new deadline additions on the court. They've moved up to a three-way tie for 11th place in the Western Conference, trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers by one game.
The Mavericks have now lost six of their last eight games since Kyrie Irving was traded to Dallas, falling to 32-30 and occupying the sixth spot in the West. They've been outscored by a combined 219-103 in their past five games, and the Lakers have outscored them by a league-high 163-108 during that stretch.
